Sanoware

Dignifying tableware for the elderly

Our client asked us to design a tableware line that would empower the elderly and disabled to eat independently and bring back joy to mealtime.

As we get older, simple daily activities – such as dining – can become a significant chore and increasingly cumbersome. Some people experience discomfort or fear when engaging with these daily tasks. Sanoware meets a variety of special needs of the elderly and those with disabilities. Whether they suffer from Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, have a visual impairment or had a stroke, whether they are at home or in an assisted care facility.

We designed each item in this line to be functional, beautiful and affordable. It is made to help improve quality of life and maintain a sense of independence. It was important that the line wouldn’t look or feel ‘assistive’, so we designed the features to be discrete.

We spent considerable time researching and working with elderly centers. This was important to analyze the various conditions and disabilities this market faces. From there we were able to identify opportunities and come to a functional, affordable and dignifying solution. Emotional and economic realities played a big role in the final product design. We also developed the brand to fit the market segment.
