Incense Burner designed with versatility, drawn from the inspiration of ancient clay oil lamps.
The Diya – Incense Burner draws its inspiration from the rich history of Jordanian oil lamp craftsmanship. Its form, influenced by the distinctive pinch found in ancient designs, pays homage to this ingenious and simple method of securely holding the wick, merging tradition with modern functionality. We worked hand in hand for months with local craftsmen to revive this production technique, resulting in a stunning form.
The choice of materials that are native to the region, make it a more sustainable and accessible choice. The unglazed clay not only reflects environmental consciousness but also ensures a cool touch and resistance to heating during charcoal use. Diya thus revitalizes traditional materials and redefines the design language of Middle Eastern products, inviting a deeper appreciation for the interplay of history and innovation
The design of this versatile product combines form and function, offering multifunctionality in one package. Crafted from a blend of clay and brass, it serves as a reed diffuser, and a charcoal incense burner, and a stick or cone incense holder. All the while doubling as a statement piece that enhances the ambiance of any space.The incorporation of the pinch allows for multifunctionality – serving as a secure holder for props like the tong and the brass cup, while offering a unique grip that enhances the user experience. This adaptive design adds a layer of user engagement, allowing the burner to be comfortably held by placing the thumb inside the small opening, providing a tactile and ergonomic experience.
In its reed diffuser mode, you can pour the oil directly into the body of the Incense Burner. Inserting the reed sticks through the pinch’s opening completes the seamless experience. To maximize the scent, cover with the brass cup.
Our product also transforms into a charcoal incense burner. Simply position the tray and cup inside the body, add charcoal and your preferred incense, and experience the aromatic beauty it imparts to your space. The cool clay body is designed ergonomically to facilitate safely holding the burner and sharing the scent.

The prototyping and testing phase served as a visual roadmap to manifest our final outcome. Drawing inspiration primarily from the elegant design of oil ancient clay lamps, this rigorous process was instrumental in helping us realize our vision. It allowed us to bring to life a final product that pays homage to the timeless charm and allure of these lamps.
